Iran used an Ababil V drone to monitor a US destroyer carrying Arleigh Burke-class guided missiles

In a recent intelligence operation, Iran monitored a United States destroyer. An Ababil V drone was used for this purpose.

Here's What We Know

In the footage below you can see, a US guided missile destroyer that came into the camera lens of an Iranian drone. The ship is an Arleigh Burk class destroyer. It was stationed in the Indian Ocean.

The Iranian drone has a radio-absorbing hull, making it difficult to spot using conventional reconnaissance methods. The propulsion system is a Rotax-914 engine with 115 horsepower and a range of 480 kilometres.

It is unclear whether the Ababil V was armed while observing the US ship. What is known is that the drone can carry four Almas missiles or six 2.4kg precision bombs with launch ranges of 8km and 6km respectively.

As for the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, they can fend off aerial threats with Standard family missiles. For this purpose, the ships are equipped with vertical launch systems. The number of cells depends on the version (Flight I, Flight II, Flight IIA or Flight III). The Arleigh Burke-class destroyers can also strike with Tomahawk and Harpoon missiles.
