General Atomics Aeronautical Systems has developed a radar designed for the Gray Eagle drone. It was named Eagle Eye.

Here's What We Know

The American company began production of Gray Eagle 25M drones, which are equipped with a new synthetic aperture radar. Eagle Eye will allow to fight more effectively against enemy drones.

The threat of UAVs is constantly growing. The effectiveness and importance of drones has been demonstrated by the war in Ukraine and the Hamas attack on Israel. The Eagle Eye will be able to track aerial threats within a radius of up to 200 kilometres (125 miles).

Gray Eagle itself will not shoot down drones. This is due to the high costs involved. For example, Iran's Shahed-136 kamikaze drone costs about $30,000, and to destroy it, it would have to use a multi-million dollar air-to-air missile. However, Gray Eagle will be able to transmit target information to another platform with a lower cost per shot.

In tests that took place in May 2023, the General Atomics Aeronautical Systems drone was able to track an aircraft with a fixed wing made of wood. The Eagle Eye radar can also track land and sea targets.
