Ming-Chi Kuo: iPhone 15 will move to USB-C with faster charging, but it will only work with certified cables
The European Commission recently recognised the USB-C port as the uniform standard that smartphones and other gadgets sold in Europe must be equipped with. Most Android device manufacturers already use this port, so the new rules apply more to Apple. So this year the company will have to give up and move its iPhone 15 range from Lightning to USB-C. But Apple wouldn't be Apple if it didn't come up with a "but".
Details
Authoritative analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the USB-C port will provide faster charging speeds for the iPhone 15, but only with certified cables. That is, even with the right power adapter and cable from other devices, you won't be able to use the iPhone's features to their full potential.
Other insiders also confirm this information and say that Apple will offer MFi (Made for iPhone) certification for USB-C accessories. However, cables without MFi certification will have limited charging speeds.
Currently, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 support a maximum charging speed of 20W, while the Pro models support up to 27W. It's possible that the iPhone 15 will get 30W fast charging - Apple has a matching charging adapter in its range, priced at $39.
In addition, another Kuo report said that while the entire iPhone 15 range will get a USB-C port, only the Pro models will support USB 3.2 for faster transfer speeds. The regular iPhone 15 models will continue to work with the slower USB 2.0.
