Northern Macedonia transfers four Su-25 attack aircraft to Ukraine
North Macedonia sent not only T-72 tanks to Ukraine, but also Su-25 attack aircrafts.
What we know
This was reported by the Macedonian publication MKD. Ukraine will receive four aircrafts. What is interesting, we are talking about the attack aircrafts, which were sold to Northern Macedonia by Ukraine in 2001. Two years later the planes were written off due to lack of necessity in them, and in 2004 the government decided to sell the Su-25.
As you have understood, for 18 years Northern Macedonia could not get rid of the planes. Moreover, in 2011, the Defense Ministry wanted to upgrade the Su-25s to NATO standards, but failed to do so as well.
It is noteworthy that the Ukrainian Defence Ministry neither confirms nor denies that the four attack aircraft have been transferred to Ukraine. The ministry said that it would disclose this information "in a transparent manner”. It is also noted that the decisions made do not affect the defense capabilities of Northern Macedonia.
