France promises Ukraine will receive SAMP/T-Mamba air defence systems capable of shooting down ballistic missiles in spring

France and Italy continue preparations for the transfer to Ukraine of the SAMP/T surface-to-air missile system, which will help protect the skies from enemy missiles.

Ukraine will receive the Mamba system from its allies. According to French Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu, the SAM system will be delivered to Ukraine in spring.

"With the Italian Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto, we have decided to deliver the SAMP/T-Mamba to Ukraine in spring 2023. This system will protect civilians and infrastructure from Russian attacks, as requested by Oleksiy Reznikov.

The Mamba (SAMP-T) is a medium-range air defence system developed by a joint French-Italian consortium. It is capable of fighting not only aircraft, but also cruise missiles and (most importantly) ballistic missiles. The system uses Aster 30 Block 1 missiles and can fire 8 such missiles in just 10 seconds. SAMP/T is capable of engaging up to 16 targets simultaneously, with a target detection range of up to 400km.
