Ukrainian Armed Forces receive over 2,000 HMMWV armoured vehicles
The number of American HMMWV armoured vehicles in service with the Ukrainian Defence Forces has increased by almost an order of magnitude in a few months. Andriy Rymaruk, director of the military department of the Turn of the Living charitable foundation, said this.
Here's What We Know
Until 24 February 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine had several hundreds of HMMWV armoured vehicles and there was only one service centre in the country. Following a large-scale invasion by Russia, the US increased deliveries, resulting in over 2,000 HMMWVs, triggering a shortage of repair facilities.
"Turn Alive implemented a project in which the Ukrainian Armed Forces received mobile service stations. Over 186 armoured vehicles have already been repaired with their help. The cost of the project amounted to $2.5 million.
Mobile workshops arrive by themselves to the place where the vehicle requiring repair is located. This allows the equipment to be repaired quickly, as there is no need to transport the HMMWV to the repair station and back to the combat zone.
