The TOS-1A heavy flamethrower system, according to the Russian media, is the most powerful non-nuclear weapon in service with the Russian army. According to documented data, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have destroyed six TOS-1A units. Several systems have been captured.
The TOS-1A uses 220mm thermobaric rounds. The maximum launch range is 6,000 metres. The flamethrower system affects an area of up to 40,000 square metres.
The launcher is located on the BM-1 tracked chassis. The combat vehicle is equipped with a V-12 diesel engine that enables speeds of up to 65 km/h. It has a cruising range of 550 km.

The system also includes a TZM-T. This is a transport and loader vehicle based on the T-72A main battle tank. Earlier, the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to seize several units of such equipment.
