Raytheon and Lockheed Martin will build more than 1,800 Javelin missiles at a cost of $311,000,000 for the United States and Ukraine
Raytheon Missiles and Defense and Lockheed Martin were awarded a $311,000,000 contract by the U.S. Department of Defense to develop Javelin missiles.
Here's What We Know
Production will be handled by Javelin Joint Venture, a joint venture between Raytheon Missiles and Defense and Lockheed Martin. The company will produce more than 1,800 missiles. They will replace the projectiles the United States sent to Ukraine in support of the Armed Forces. William A. LaPlante, one of the U.S. undersecretaries of defense, said the contract is an excellent example of a simultaneous commitment to strengthening the domestic industrial base and supporting allies.
To date, Javelin Joint Venture has produced more than 50,000 Javelin missiles and more than 12,000 reusable launchers. Javelin missiles are expected to remain in the U.S. Armed Forces arsenal through 2050, but will be continually upgraded to meet changing operational needs.
