Lockheed Martin tested the ER GMLRS high-precision missile for the M142 HIMARS and M270 MLRS with a launch range of 150 km
The ER GMLRS missile for the M142 HIMARS and M270 MLRS multiple rocket launchers was tested on 6 October. It is pictured above. Next to it there is the Precision Strike Missile concept.
Here's What We Know
The tests were revealed by Lockheed Martin, an American company participating in the AUSA 2022 arms show. The event began on October 10 and will end on October 12. The manufacturer brought a mock-up of the new missile to the show.
The ER GMLS has an enlarged rocket engine, an updated design and a new tail fin. The maximum launch range is 150 km, but Lockheed Martin said that during tests last week the missile flew 59 km.
Note that this is not the first test of the ER GMLRS. The missile's debut launch took place in 2021. The start of production is scheduled for 2023. Lockheed Martin now has two official customers - the US and Finland. However, the UK also wants to buy the ER GMLRS for the M270A2 MLRS multiple rocket launcher.
