Austria wants to replace Eurofighter Typhoon fighters with F-35 Lightning II

Austria is considering replacing its fleet of Eurofighter Typhoons with American F-35 Lightning II fighters.

Here's What We Know

The information comes after the government released a $15.5 billion defense budget through 2027. The Austrian Defense Ministry will gather information to evaluate the potential purchase of fifth-generation fighter jets.

The budget includes money for Eurofighter Typhoon upgrades that will allow the Generation 4+ fighters to last until the beginning of the next decade. If Austria decides to buy the F-35 Lightning II, the deal will be concluded within the next ten years.

It should be noted that the American fighters of the fifth generation are very popular in Europe. The list of European customers of F-35 Lightning II includes Switzerland, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Poland, UK, Netherlands, Italy, Finland and Greece.
