Analogue to HIMARS: Poland signed a contract to buy 288 Korean K239 Chunmoo MLRS
After months of rumors and leaks, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak has signed a contract with South Korea for the purchase of K239 Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers.
Here's What We Know
We are talking about 288 rocket launchers, although initially they talked about 300 systems. Nevertheless, it is still a large number. All the launchers will come with the Polish Jelcz chassis and the Topaz fire control system. The Poles will receive the first batch of MLRSs (18 units) as early as 2023.
Flashback
The K239 Chunmoo has been in service with the South Korean army for seven years. The MLRS is being developed by the South Korean company Hanwha Defense. It can use different types of ammunition: 130mm, 227mm (HIMARS compatible) and 239mm. The K239 Chunmoo has two containers with 6-12 rockets. The maximum range of the MLRS is 300 km.
