Lockheed Martin published new images of the sixth generation fighter

The American company Lockheed Martin offered a look at how the sixth generation fighter that will replace the F-22 Raptor will look.

Here's What We Know

The manufacturer has killed two birds with one stone, as along with the fighter in one image showed the concept of an air tanker. Lockheed Martin is also working on it, but as part of the LMXT program.

Work on the sixth generation fighter is conducted under the Next-Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) project. The aircraft will get two engines developed under Adaptive Engine Transition Program (AETP). These are General Electric XA100 and Pratt & Whitney XA101.

If we believe the Lockheed Martin images, the next generation aircraft, unlike the F-35 Lightning II and F-22 Raptor, will have a "flying wing" aerodynamic scheme, like the Northrop Grumman's B-21 Raider nuclear stealth bomber, which will be unveiled on December 2.

The design, without a pronounced tail fin, provides more room for additional sensors, fuel or weapons. Air intakes do not appear in the photos. They may be located at the bottom of the fighter. But it is possible that they simply did not want to be added to the renders.

It is impossible not to note the low profile of the cockpit, due to which the pilot will have a reduced view. But this problem will be solved by the fighter's situational awareness system. It combines all the sensors into one system. Also do not forget about the existence of the unmanned version of the new generation fighter, where the cockpit does not play any role at all.
