Raytheon will be able to sell four dozen tactical guided air bombs to the Royal Omani Air Force.
Here's What We Know
We're talking about the AGM-154 Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW), which is focused on destroying mobile and stationary targets outside of air defense zones. The $385 million deal has been approved by the U.S. State Department.
The Royal Omani Air Force will receive 48 Block III level bombs (JSOW-C1). The contract also includes additional equipment and training bombs.
The AGM-154 JSOW Block III is 4.06 meters long and has a 2.69-meter wingspan. The bomb weighs 495 kg and the maximum weight of the warhead reaches 450 kg. The launch range is 24/28 km, 110/130 km when launched from low and high altitude respectively.
AGM-154 JSOW Block III carriers include F15-E Strike Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon and F/A-18 Hornet fighters, AV-8D attack aircraft, and B-1B Lancer, B-2 Spirit and B-52 Stratofortress bombers. The Royal Omani Air Force has in its arsenal F-16C/D fighters in Block 50 modification.
