Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Oracle signed $9 billion cloud contracts with the Pentagon

The U.S. Department of Defense, after several attempts, still signed cloud contracts, which are characterized by the exorbitant cost.

U.S. companies Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Oracle have signed contracts with the Pentagon to perform the Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability (JWCC) cloud project. The Defense Department decided last year to abandon the Joint Defense Environment Defense Cloud Infrastructure (JEDI) because it no longer meets the department's needs.

It will now be replaced by JWCC. The project will provide the Pentagon with enterprise-grade cloud storage services from anywhere in the world. The $9 billion is the maximum total contract value between the companies and the department that will be achieved if all requirements are met.

Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Oracle have until June 8, 2028 to complete the work. At the same time, the U.S. Department of Defense will not allocate the entire amount at once. Instead, the agency will transfer funds to companies as orders are fulfilled.
