Lockheed Martin has invested in an aircraft electric motor manufacturer that is second to none

Lockheed Martin has become a new investor in the young company H3X Technologies. The start-up develops electric aircraft engines and has 17 employees.

Here's What We Know

H3X Technologies has a range of electric aircraft engines from 30kW to 3MW. The Denver-based company claims that its propulsion systems are second to none when it comes to efficiency and power density.

H3X continues to work on improving the engines. It claims that they can achieve a power density in excess of 10 kW per kilogram. At this stage of development, the manufacturer is scaling up technologies that can enable electrification of legacy systems, and one long-term goal is to build its own electric aircraft.

The size of the investment in the H3X is not specified. In addition to Lockheed Martin, the startup has partnered with other companies that work on military projects, including drones with electric propulsion systems.
