The Netherlands is set to buy long-range cruise missiles from the US.

Here's What We Know

This has been announced by the Kingdom's Ministry of Defence. It is about the AGM-158B JASSM-ER air-launched missiles. They are planned to be used together with the F-35 Lightning II fighters. Unfortunately, the number of missiles, delivery dates, and contract price have not been announced by the Netherlands yet.

The new long-range weapon will enable the Air Force to hit strategic targets deep behind enemy lines. Incidentally, to date, the Dutch navy and air force do not have weapons that can strike at long ranges.

The AGM-158B JASSM-ER is an American precision-guided air-to-ground cruise missile. It is being developed by Lockheed Martin. The missile is designed to engage important, highly protected targets in all weather conditions, at any time of day and night and from ranges outside the range of air defenses. The AGM-158B JASSM-ER has a range of up to 980km.
