Royal Air Force officials said the mission came as no surprise as Russian aircraft often fly over the Baltic Sea. The intercepts proved that Britain and Germany can act quickly, decisively and effectively to ensure NATO's security.
The Eurofighter Typhoons took off from Amari airbase in Estonia. They escorted the Russian planes as they flew near Estonia. The Swedish Air Force's Gripen fighters then took over surveillance.
The incident took place on 14 April 2023. Friday's interception was the fifth time German and British fighters have made contact with Russian aircraft near NATO airspace in just six weeks.
