The US Army has awarded Javelin Joint Venture (JJV) a new contract to manufacture Javelin anti-tank missiles. The customers are the US and international allies.
Here's What We Know
The Javelin anti-tank missiles will be supplied to foreign customers, the Navy, the Marine Corps and the US Army. The agreement runs from (FY) 2023 to 2026.
The US Army has not disclosed the exact number of missiles. Lockheed Martin said in a press release that funding in FY2023 will be $1.02 billion and production by FY2026 will increase to 3,960 missiles per year. The potential contract value is $7.2bn.
JJV is a joint venture between defence companies Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. The joint effort has produced more than 50,000 Javelin anti-tank missiles and over 12,000 launchers for US and international customers.
The new contract supports growing demand for the Javelin from more than 20 foreign customers worldwide, including North Macedonia, which has become a new customer. The Javelin is expected to remain in the US arsenal until 2050.
