MBDA demonstrates the upgraded MAADS air defence system with new extended-range CAMM-ER missiles
The European MBDA group has successfully tested the MAADS (Medium Advanced Air Defence System) with CAMM-ER missiles. It will be introduced into the Italian Air Force.
Here's What We Know
As part of the test, the Medium Advanced Air Defence System was able to successfully detect, identify and assess an unmanned target. The drone simulated an enemy missile. The air threat was successfully eliminated.
MAADS uses the relatively new CAMM-ER missiles. They are capable of intercepting targets up to 45km away. The system includes a detection centre, Leonardo's Kronos Land radar and a launcher.
They tested the two-way data link between the CAMM-ER missile and the MAADS complex. The air defence system will be integrated into the Italian Air Force as a replacement for the Spada medium-range surface-to-air missile system.
