Spanish police and military have confirmed the incident. The crash happened around noon local time. The plane crashed inside the base, causing no harm to civilians. The cause of the crash was not specified. The military said only that the pilot lost control.
The fighter pilot was able to eject seconds before the F/A-18 Hornet turned into a fireball. He was taken to Zaragoza hospital for treatment.
