Nuclear bomber learns to launch JDAM QS-ER 900kg bombs with a range of up to 76km

The US military has tested the ability of the B-52H Stratofortress nuclear bomber to drop inert mines. The test took place at the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Hawaii in early March 2023.

Here's What We Know

The munition combines the Mk64 underwater mine concept with the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) guidance kit. The result is a 2,000-pound (900kg) QuickStrike Extended Range (QS-ER) bomb that can be launched up to 40 nautical miles (76km) from 35,000ft (10.7km).

The test involved a B-52H aircraft belonging to the 49th Test and Evaluation Squadron. The test confirmed the nuclear bomber's ability to launch QS-ER while remaining at a safe distance.
