US sends highly mobile M142 HIMARS missile systems to Syria

The United States has sent a shipment of M142 HIMARS high-mobility artillery missile systems to Syria, Anadolu Agency has reported, citing local sources. This was reported by the Anadolu Agency, citing local sources.

Here's What We Know

The M142 HIMARS have reinforced the US deployment in Deir el-Zour province. It is east of the Euphrates River and controlled by the People's Self-Defence Units (YPG/PKK) forces. The launchers have also arrived at the al-Omar field and the Conoco gas plant.

The U.S. decided to move the M142 HIMARS to Syria to bolster its forces and to counter attacks by Iranian-backed groups. They are located on the back side of the Euphrates River.

The US military has been attacked several times by Iranian drones. For example, about two months ago, a drone struck a facility in eastern Syria. The US responded with F-15E Strike Eagle fighters.
