Korea's KF-21 fighter will use German IRIS-T aircraft missiles
The KF-21 fighter will carry the IRIS-T aviation missile. This was announced by the German company Diehl Defense.
Here's What We Know
The IRIS-T missile was developed more than 15 years ago as a replacement for the AIM-9 Sidewinder. A modification for the IRIS-T SLM surface-to-air missile system appeared about 5 years ago.
Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) conducted the first test of IRIS-T in early April this year. The purpose was to demonstrate the reliability of the missile's launch from the KF-21 fighter, which made its maiden flight about a year ago.
The KF-21 will enter service with the Republic of Korea Air Force in 2026. Carriers of the IRIS-T missile are the F-16 Fighting Falcon, Eurofighter Typhoon, JAS 39 Gripen and Tornado fighters.
