The US State Department has approved the potential sale of more than two hundred M982A1 Excalibur precision-guided munitions to the Spanish armed forces. The sale will be carried out as part of the Foreign Military Sale programme.
Here's What We Know
The State Department has announced approval for the sale of 153 pieces of M982A1 Excalibur ammunition. Spain had previously requested 118 rounds worth $21.87m, so the European country will pay a total of $48.2m for 271 rounds of 155mm ammunition.
The potential deal will support US foreign policy and national security by strengthening the defence capabilities of the NATO ally, which is an important force for political stability and economic progress in Europe. This is according to a statement on the Defence and Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) website.
The sale of the M982A1 Excalibur precision-guided munitions will improve Spain's ability to counter current and future threats, as well as improve interoperability with US and allied forces. In addition, the DSCA states that Spain will have no difficulty integrating the Excalibur into its weapon systems.
