Curtiss-Wright to supply Flight Test Instrumentation for F-35 Technology Refresh 3 fifth-generation fighter jets
Nellis Air Force Base has awarded Curtiss-Wright funding to supply test equipment as part of the Technology Refresh 3 (TR-3) upgrade. The project is a critical step in the development of the F-35.
Here's What We Know
Curtiss-Wright will provide the upgrade programme with equipment that is installed on the aircraft during testing. It's called Flight Test Instrumentation. The deal is valued at $24 million. Work on the contract will take place at Teletronics Technology Corporation's facility in Pennsylvania.
The TR-3 is a critical upgrade for the fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighter jet. It involves upgrades to the aircraft's software and hardware components. The project aims to improve the memory, display, computing capabilities of the multi-role fighter to support future technology requirements. The Block 4 upgrade will be based on the TR-3.
It is worth noting that the Pentagon will halt deliveries of F-35 TR-3 fighters next month until the software is finalised. Aircraft from the assembly line will go straight to stock. TR-2 deliveries will continue.
