The Indian Navy is the first to conduct manoeuvres involving two aircraft carriers INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya
The Navy has put two aircraft carriers at sea at once. INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya were manoeuvred simultaneously for the first time.
Here's What We Know
The Indian Navy started the exercise on June 1, 2023. The event took place in the Arabian Sea. Thirty-five MiG-29K fighters, MH60R, SH-3 Sea King, ALH and Chetak helicopters were deployed on the decks of the ships.
In addition to INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya, the Indian Navy's Kolkata and Visakhapatnam destroyers, Deepak tanker and Talwar frigates also participated in the exercise.
India's Defence Ministry said the exercise was a demonstration of naval strength and the country's commitment to protecting its own national interests, supporting relations with partners and supporting stability in the region.
INS Vikrant was commissioned in early autumn last year. MiG-29K, Rafale M and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighters can be deployed aboard the aircraft carrier. INS Vikramaditya can carry MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB fighters, HAL Dhruv, Ka-31 and Ka-28 helicopters.
