Germany has ordered 38 upgraded Eurofighter Typhoon fighters worth $6bn, but it will take Airbus seven years to produce and deliver

Airbus Defense has begun construction of the fourth-generation Eurofighter Typhoon fighters for the German Air Force. Production and deliveries will be delayed until the end of the decade.

Germany has ordered 30 single-seat and eight twin-seat fighters. They will have upgraded software, an improved defence system, conformal fuel tanks and an active phased array radar.

The contract was signed in mid-fall 2020. The agreement was worth €5.4bn (~$6bn). Airbus Defense has begun manufacturing the aircraft at its facility in Bavaria. The German Air Force will receive all ordered fighters by 2030.

Germany is buying upgraded Eurofighter Typhoons to replace older aircraft. The aircraft in question are Eurofighter Typhoon Block 5 fighters, which were adopted by the German Air Force in the early 2000s.
