Italy has confirmed it wants to buy modern German Leopard 2A7+ tanks
In May, it was reported that Italy wanted to buy modern German Leopard 2A7+ tanks. This has now been officially confirmed.
Here's What We Know
This was revealed by the Deputy Minister of Defence of Italy Isabella Rauti (Isabella Rauti). According to her, the purchase of tanks are planned to be included in the future defence programme. The purchase must be approved by the parliament of the country.
And before the usual comments show up, yes as of now the Ariete AMV programme will remain, as the need for the Italian army is 125 updated Ariete's and 125 Leopards. The new DPP usually is made public around august-september so stay tuned.

By the way, Italy is rumoured to be planning to buy 250 tanks. They will be a replacement for Italy's Ariete C1 tanks. The contract is estimated to be worth about 8,000,000,000,000,000 euros.

The Leopard 2A7+ is the latest modification of the Leopard 2 tank. Leopard 2A7+ has passive armour of the latest generation. In addition, the tank supports additional modules with different types of defence. The main armament of the tank is the Rheinmetall Rh-120 L/55 120 mm smoothbore gun with a barrel length of 55 calibres. The Leopard 2A7+ also boasts an advanced EMES 15 fire control system with stabilised sight and zoom support.
