The UK will send Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4 fighter jets to Finland to test the ability to take off and land on a motorway track
The UK will soon test the ability of Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4 aircraft to operate from public roads. For this purpose, the Royal Air Force will send the fourth-generation fighters to Finland.
Here's What We Know
Finland has already proven the ability of F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets (pictured below) to take off and land on a motorway. For such exercises in the country, a section of road is closed and residents can come to see the planes driving along the motorway like cars.
The UK plans to conduct demonstration flights of the Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4 taking off and landing on the motorway within a few months. The announcement was made by Air Marshal Harvey Smyth.
The event will be part of an effort to make the exercise as close to actual military combat as possible. It is possible that in the event of a military conflict, infrastructure will be destroyed or damaged, so aircraft will have to make do without perfect runways, and they need to be prepared for that.
