UK invests almost $12bn to develop new military technology and resupply after sending weapons to Ukraine
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have received billions of dollars worth of weapons from the UK. In this regard, the United Kingdom is preparing for large investments to replenish the stockpile.
Here's What We Know
Since 24 February 2022, the UK has provided Ukraine with over £4.6bn ($6bn) worth of military aid. Thus, London remains the second arms supplier after the United States.
Ukraine has received M270 MLRS multiple rocket launchers, Challenger 2 tanks, depleted uranium ammunition, Storm Shadow cruise missiles and many other weapons. The supplies are creating a gap in the UK's own armed forces.
Consequently, the United Kingdom has announced plans to invest £2.5bn ($3.2bn) in resupply. However, the Ministry of Defence has not disclosed the specific types of weapons that will be purchased with the new funding.
The UK will spend almost three times as much on developing new military technology. The Ministry of Defence promises to turn the UK into a scientific and technological superpower to gain tactical advantage on the battlefield. The investment will amount to £6.6bn ($8.6bn).
