The crash of the MV-22 Osprey convertible in 2022 was unpreventable and occurred due to a technical malfunction

In June 2022, an MV-22 Osprey convertible crashed. The crash, which claimed the lives of five members of the US Marine Corps, was unavoidable. This was the conclusion reached by experts after an investigation.

Here's What We Know

The investigation found no errors on the part of the pilots and crew. The Marine Corps confirms that the Marines did everything correctly and performed the flight in accordance with the rules. The cause of the crash was a catastrophic, unavoidable and unforeseeable mechanical failure. The V-22 Joint Programme Office (V-22 Joint Programme Office) said in a statement.

The deceased pilots were Captains Nicholas Losapio and John Sax, and Corporals Nathan Carlson, Seth Rasmuson and Lance Corporal Evan Strickland. The Marine Corps said their families have been informed of the investigation.

The accident occurred on 8 June 2022. The cause of the crash was transmission wear caused by hard engagement of the clutch and the subsequent failure of one of the engines. For this reason, the U.S. Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps, which use different versions of the V-22 Osprey, have temporarily halted flights of the convertible.
