$50 million contract: Australia buys Spike LR2 anti-tank systems for Boxer CRV armoured reconnaissance vehicles

The Australian Department of Defence will purchase Spike LR2 anti-tank missile systems.

Here's What We Know

The contract is worth $50 million and will be implemented by a local company Rafael Australia. The systems are planned to be installed on armoured reconnaissance vehicles Boxer CRV, which are in service with the Australian Army. If everything goes according to plan, the first deliveries of complexes will begin in 2024.

Flashback

Spike is an Israeli multifunctional anti-tank missile system. Its development began in the late 1970s, and it was adopted into service in 1982. The Spike LR2 is a modified version for longer range - up to 5500 metres. It is capable of penetrating 850-900 mm armour. The Spike LR2 can be mounted on armoured vehicles and helicopters.
