The Ukrainian Air Force demonstrated the operation of the US HAWK surface-to-air missile system
The commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykola Oleshchuk, has published a video of the operation of the HAWK SAM at night on 23 October.
What is known
The video shows how the complex destroys two enemy air targets. Presumably, we are talking about Russian-Iranian drones Shahed-136/131. By the way, the Ukrainian Defence Forces have several batteries of HAWK SAMs in service. They were given to Ukraine by Spain and the United States.
Flashback
HAWK (Homing All the Way Killer) is an American medium-range SAM system. It was developed in 1954-1960 by the Raytheon company. It was adopted into service in 1960 and has since received many modifications and improvements. The US Army stopped operating the HAWK in 2002. In total, more than 40,000 SAMs were produced. The HAWK is capable of intercepting missiles and aircraft. The probability of hitting the target is 85% (in the I-Hawk modification). The maximum range of the complex is 50 kilometres.
