This summer, the United States announced that it would buy Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft tanks from Jordan. Now details of the contract have surfaced on the internet.

Here's What We Know

The information was shared by the publication De Telegraaf. We are talking about 60 units of Gepard. They previously belonged to the Netherlands, but after decommissioning they were sold to Jordan. The U.S. bought the anti-aircraft systems for $118 million. The money was allocated under the USAI (Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative) programme.

The contract is being fulfilled by Global Military Products. Arms deliveries should begin soon and will last until May 2024.

Gepard is a German self-propelled air defence system. It is designed to cover ground forces, destroy air targets at sloping ranges from 100 m to 4 km and at altitudes of up to 3 km, flying at speeds of up to 350-400 m/s, as well as ground and surface targets at ranges of up to 4,500 metres. The launcher is built on the chassis of the Leopard tank. By the way, the AFU now has more than 30 Gepard in service.
