Insider: future Square Enix games could become Xbox console exclusives. The company is considering the option of refusing to cooperate with Sony
Many games from Japanese publisher Square Enix are PlayStation exclusives, but the company may switch key partners in the future.
Here's What We Know
According to respected journalist and insider Jez Corden, Square Enix's upcoming and as yet unannounced Square Enix games could become Xbox console exclusives.
During The Xbox Two podcast, Corden revealed that relevant talks are already underway between Square Enix and Microsoft, and there is a possibility that the Japanese will sign a deal for temporary or permanent exclusivity on Xbox, and possibly PC.
Both sides are yet to confirm this information, but Square Enix CEO Takashi Kiryu recently said that his company plans to significantly expand its partnership with Microsoft and confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV will be released on the Xbox Series in spring 2024.
Of course, Square Enix hits like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth or Final Fantasy XVI shouldn't be expected on Xbox, as their exclusivity contracts with PlayStation have been signed well in advance.
