Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept camera with a $43,000 Leica M external lens compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max
Last summer, Xiaomi unveiled three flagships with Leica optics. One of them was the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. Towards the end of the year, a concept flagship appeared whose main camera has no lens. In its place is a mount that allows you to mount external optics. A few months later, blogger Mrwhosetheboss was able to test the smartphone and compared it to the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Here's What We Know
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept is equipped with a Leica M lens (f/1.4). To make the focal length match the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the blogger didn't use a standard camera, but a 3x zoom telephoto lens with no loss of quality.
Expectedly, the Xiaomi smartphone produces better photos than the iPhone 14 Pro Max in different conditions. The pictures are characterised by natural colour reproduction, good background blur and more light.
One downside was the limited focal length. If a person is at a distance of 20 meters or more, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept won't be able to focus properly.
The cost of such a smartphone is $43,000. But even if you have that kind of budget, it will be difficult to buy the device. Blogger Mrwhosetheboss claims that there are only three copies of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept in the world. Also, if you're willing to buy a smartphone for $43,000 and carry around a large lens, it makes more sense to buy a full-fledged camera.
