Electronic Arts, in addition to the continuation of Jedi: Fallen Order, is working on a new strategy and first-person shooter in the world of Star Wars
Electronic Arts has announced major plans to make more Star Wars games, and its studios and partners are developing three new titles, including a sequel to Jedi Fallen Order, a first-person shooter and a strategy game. Respawn oversees the development of all three games.
“We are excited to continue working with the incredibly talented developers at Respawn,” said Lucasfilm Games CEO Douglas Reilly. "They have demonstrated mastery in creating epic Star Wars stories along with best-in-class gameplay, and we look forward to bringing even more amazing experiences to a galaxy far, far away."
But the continuation of Star Wars Battlefront is not worth the wait. The series was handled by DICE, which apparently introduced Battlefront 3, but the license cost was reportedly too high. In total, 33 million copies of Battlefront and Battlefront 2 from EA have been sold.
In total, EA has sold more than 52 million Star Wars games over the years, generating $3 billion, and the Galaxy of Heroes mobile game itself has earned $1 billion through microtransactions.
"Building on the previous successes of our relationship with EA, this new collaboration underscores the trust and mutual respect between the world-class teams at EA, Respawn and Lucasfilm Games," said Walt Disney Games Vice President Sean Shoptow. “With the experience and passion of each team, we will create compelling original games for a wide variety of audiences across the Star Wars galaxy.
As a reminder, EA no longer owns the exclusive license for Star Wars games for consoles and PC. Ubisoft is developing its own new open-world Star Wars game, and Zynga is creating a free-to-play shooter called Star Wars Hunters. A remake of Knights of the Old Republic is also in development for PS5 and PC from Aspyr Media.
