Initial sales of "Guardians of the Galaxy" did not live up to Square Enix's expectations, the company still plans to increase profits from the game
Guardians of the Galaxy didn't sell as well as Square Enix expected when it launched last year. The publisher shared his disappointment at a financial results briefing earlier this month, but promised to "compensate" for the slow start with further sales in 2022.
"Despite the high reviews, the game's sales at launch fell short of our initial expectations," said Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda. “However, the sales initiatives that we launched in November 2021 and continued into the new year have resulted in increased sales, and we intend to work to continue expanding sales to offset the slow start to the game.”
The financial affairs of the company, on the contrary, are going well. Revenue was 273.6 billion yen. Net sales and operating income in the digital sales segments also increased.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was released on October 26, 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch.
