Paul Dano had trouble sleeping while filming The Batman due to intense scenes as the Riddler
Actor Paul Dano is playing the Riddler in the upcoming Batman movie, and the actor revealed that he had trouble sleeping during filming due to the nature of the character. In conversation with ew Dano said that he had a hard time "moving away from that character" and it affected his sleep schedule.
“There were a few nights where I probably didn't sleep as well as I would like, just because it was a bit difficult to move away from this character. It takes a lot of energy to get used to it, you have to endure it when you're there."
The complex filming extended to Dano's costume as well. He came up with the idea of covering the character with plastic wrap so he wouldn't leave DNA at the crime scene. Director Matt Reeves liked the idea, but the first versions of the costume were given to Dano literally painfully.
“The head was just pounding from the heat. I went home after the first full day, and could hardly sleep because I was afraid of what was happening to my head. Fara and lack of oxygen. It was a crazy feeling."
Luckily, the suit has been modified to make the mask more breathable.
Dano also talked about what attracted him to the role in the first place, saying that Reeves had an idea for a villain that was "more real" and "terrifying". The Riddler will not be your typical villain. What he lacks in screen time, he makes up for in horror.
The Batman will premiere in theaters on March 3, 2022.
