Thanks, Elon Musk: Vodafone restored connection in Irpen and Romanovka using Starlink
Vodafone Ukraine said that it was able to restore communication in Irpin and Romanovka using Starlink satellite equipment.
What is known
This is the first case in Ukraine and one of the first in the world when the operation of a mobile operator's network is backed up via satellite communications. It looks like the solution was previously also implemented by the Japanese operator KDDI.
Connecting to satellite Internet allows you to ensure uninterrupted operation of the network segment even in the absence of Internet access through the traditional underground transport network. Thanks to this scheme, it is possible to quickly restore mobile communications in areas with damaged nodal communications.
Now mobile communications in Irpen and Romanovka operates in 2G and 4G configurations.
Recall that at the beginning of the war Elon Elon Musk supported Ukraine and announced the launch of Starlink satellite Internet starlink.
