Belkin will release true wireless charging this year - over the air and without wires at all
Long distance charging or true wireless charging may finally see the light of day in 2022. Belkin is due to release accessories using this technology this year.
What to expect?
According to the leak, Belkin has struck a deal with Israeli startup Wi-Charge, which plans to change how the technology works by sending up to one watt of power wirelessly to devices in homes, offices and other places. Wi-Charge plans to use this wireless charging in "low power situations where you would normally use an alkaline battery or a rechargeable battery."
What kind of product it will be is not yet clear, as Belkin has a wide range of wireless chargers for iPhones, AirPods and other products that support the Qi pattern, while Wi-Charge is aimed at smart locks, electric toothbrushes and devices that do not require a lot of energy for charging.
“I can't say exactly what Belkin is launching, and that's a bummer because it's a consumer staple. Belkin is very interesting for several reasons: it is a consumer company that is very aggressive in terms of timing, and they have chosen the perfect application. Belkin makes aftermarket accessories for charging other devices, as well as Powerline products, smart home products, etc. This allows us to give them an unfair advantage in terms of [wireless power]. I think it's time. Everyone is waiting for wireless power,” said Wi-Charge CEO Ori Mor.
An interesting part of Wi-Charge wireless charging technology is that it uses an IR beam that travels from a transmitter to a receiver.
