Asus is going to enter the market of high-performance SSDs
According to teaser, which Asus posted on its Facebook page, it is going to release its own high-performance SSD. Officially, the drive has not been announced yet, but since Asus is going to hold its "Boundless" ROG event on May 17, we will definitely get more details about this drive.
According to the image, ROG Strix SQ7 is a solid state drive of the standard form factor 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe. It comes with aluminum or, alternatively, graphene cooling tape. This is suitable for users who want to use it under the heat sink of the motherboard.
The proprietary Asus drive is not a big surprise - today it is relatively easy for the manufacturer to release a drive with ready-made components. Competitors, including MSI and Gigabyte, have their own Phison E18 drives that offer write and read speeds of 7 GB / s or faster. They are already competing with Samsung and Westerm Digital drives.
The market for high-performance SSDs is quite saturated. SSDs are not a commodity, but nowadays there is not much to choose between as soon as you go beyond aesthetics and price. Asus will benefit from its well-known brand, but will not be able to charge a significant price if it competes with reputable storage manufacturers, including those mentioned above, as well as companies such as Kingston and Seagate.
