New Chrome OS features as announced on Google I / O 2022
The Google I / O 2022 Presentation, which featured a bunch of devices, is over. As part of it, a Chrome OS session was held, which showed what features the system will receive from Google this year. We would like to quickly summarize some of the highlighted features that will soon appear on Chromebooks.
Better Together
The first set of new features is presented under the Better Together banner. We have heard about this area for many years, and its previous incarnations have given us things like Google Messages, Phone Hub and Instant Tethering. But Google has not finished expanding the boundaries of how our devices can more easily complement each other.
First, we finally get Fast Pair for Chrome OS. Fast Pair allows users to combine compatible accessories with just one touch and sync connections between devices. This means that you can move smoothly from one device to another with, for example, Pixel Buds, with just one touch.
Next, Camera Roll will finally appear in Chrome OS. Camera Roll is a great feature that will allow your latest photos taken on smartphones to appear in the Phone Hub section of your Chromebook. From where you can simply drag and share your latest photos anywhere via Chrome OS.
Completing Better Together also confirmed the streaming of communication applications, which will provide Android users with an advanced messaging interface on their Chromebook. To do this, you will need a device with Android 13 and Chromebook. The essence of the feature is that you can continue the conversation from your smartphone directly to Chrome OS in the form of, as it were, a mini-program. It will be interesting to see how this works with the apps installed on your Chromebook, and whether it can provide a more seamless connection between your laptop and mobile device.
Better application detection
Finally, Google is preparing a new, improved application search service. It looks like the Chrome OS Application Center will appear, which will attract applications from all available sources and show them to the user in one way or another. Using machine learning, Google will customize recommendations based on user preferences. Once the user finds the right app, the new service will direct them to the right place to install, regardless of whether the app is in the Play Store or not.
