Apple AirPods Pro ruptured 12-year-old's eardrums and left him disabled

Apple faces litigation over AirPods Pro that crippled a 12-year-old boy.

How did it happen?

The lawsuit was filed against Apple in California in 2020, but only now became known about it. In the documentation, the victim is listed as BG: he was watching a movie on Netflix on his iPhone, which was connected to AirPods Pro. The volume was set low, but at some point, the Amber Alert system, which is designed to attract the attention of ‌iPhone‌ owners, was triggered by causing the devices to play a loud sound and vibrate.

As a result of a sharp loud sound, the boy's eardrums were damaged. After the incident, the victim suffers from hearing loss, dizziness, nausea, tinnitus and is forced to wear a hearing aid.

The lawsuit alleges that Apple is aware of "defective" AirPods that do not mute Amber Alerts. What's more, Apple also didn't include a warning about a potential issue that users might encounter.

The lawsuit seeks damages from Apple against the boy and his parents, who are under enormous emotional stress due to the situation. The lawsuit seeks "punitive damages in an amount that will punish Defendants for their conduct and deter other technology companies from engaging in such misconduct in the future."
