Russia claimed the alleged destruction of two Ukrainian Tu-141 Strizh drones.

What we know

Residents of the city of Kursk reported powerful explosions at night. In the morning, Mayor Roman Starovoitov announced that the air defense system had allegedly shot down two Ukrainian Tu-141 Strizh drones as they approached the city. He also published two photos of the destroyed drones. To what extent the pictures correspond to reality is unknown. The distance between Kursk and the border is about 90 km at least.

The TU-141 Strizh is a reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle that is used to monitor several hundred kilometers from the front line at transonic speed. The drone can accelerate up to 1,100 km/h, and a parachute system in the tail section is provided for landing.

The length of the TU-141 Strizh is 14.33 m, the wingspan is 3.88 m and the total weight is more than 5300 kg. UAV is equipped with the engine TRD KR-17A with the static thrust of 19,6 kN. Practical ceiling is 6000 m and flight range is 1000 km.
