Suddenly: Ukraine already has eight HIMARS and will receive four more in the near future
For a week we have been saying that the Ukrainian military has received only four multiple rocket launchers HIMARS , but it turns out we have twice as many.
What is known
Just now we wrote about Joe Biden's signing of a $400 million military aid package for Ukraine. It will include shells, spare parts, vehicles and four HIMARS multiple rocket launchers.
However, a Pentagon spokesman said at a briefing that the total number of multiple rocket launchers would increase to 12. This means that Ukraine now already has eight HIMARSrocket launchers, not four as everyone previously thought.
"Ukraine is now successfully striking Russian positions in Ukraine, deeper behind the front lines, depriving Russia of artillery operations," a Pentagon spokesman.
The official added that all the HIMARS provided to Ukraine are now in combat status, although the Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have destroyed two MLRSs and two ammunition depots. The AFU General Staff immediately denied this.
The United States began supplying the key precision-guided weapon system last month after receiving assurances from Kiev that Ukraine would not use HIMARS to hit targets on Russian territory. A Pentagon spokesman stressed that Ukraine had kept its promise.
