The Russian Navy will get rid of the world's largest nuclear-powered submarine, called the Dmitry Donskoy.
What is known
The Project 941 UM Shark submarine has been delayed in the Russian Navy's fleet. Initially her scrapping was scheduled for 2020. For unknown reasons, the operation of the submarine was extended for two years. Now it will be replaced by a Borey-A class submarine. It will also be named Dmitry Donskoy.
The submarine was launched in 1980. Twenty-two years later the submarine underwent modernization. It was equipped with ballistic missile "Bulava". The submarine was supposed to test the missile before its acceptance for service. Also the submarine was to be armed with two hundred "Kalibr" cruise missiles.
