Poland transferred its PT-91 Twardy tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

What we know

Krzysztof Płatek, a representative of the Armament Agency of the Polish Ministry of Defense informed about this. According to him, the tanks should have already arrived in Ukraine. Poland will cover the deficit of tanks with deliveries from South Korea.

It is not yet specified how many tanks Poland has handed over to Ukraine. Earlier there was information that the Armed Forces will receive more than 200 combat vehicles. In addition, a video has recently appeared with an echelon of PT-91 Twardy moving on the railroad towards the Ukrainian border.

PT-91 Twardy: tank features

PT-91 Twardy is the main battle tank of the Polish army. It was produced by Bumar Labedy and is based on a licensed version of the Soviet T-72M1 fighting vehicle. In 1993, the first prototype was shown, and two years later it was put into service.

The key feature of the Polish tank is the Twardy protection with the use of active armor with 394 blocks developed by ERAWA, defending the front of the fighting vehicle and turret. Experiments have shown that the protection of PT-91 Twardy has increased by 30-70%.

The tank has overall dimensions: 6.86 (10.03) x 3.7 x 2.19 mm. In brackets you can see the length including the 2A46M cannon of 125 mm caliber. Weight of PT-91 Twardy is almost 46 tons. The crew consists of three people. Also note the 850 horsepower engine, speed up to 60 km/h and range of 480 km or 700 km with external fuel sides.
