Biden Ready to Discuss Nuclear Weapons Control System with Russia and Insists on Chinese Involvement
U.S. President Joe Biden stated his readiness to discuss nuclear arms control issues with Russia.
What is known
The 46th U.S. president made a statement to this effect on the eve of the 10th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. According to Biden, the US is ready to begin work on the new treaty that will replace START III. The current agreement, which was concluded in 2013, expires in 2026.
Biden said Russia's aggression has disrupted peace in Europe and is an attack on fundamental principles of world order. New negotiations will require a partner in good faith.
The president stressed that the U.S. has already prepared several proposals to return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. In addition, Biden insists that China participate in the negotiations.
