Iran sold 1,000 strike drones to Russia - first drones already used in war against Ukraine
The Russian Defense Ministry purchased 1,000 Iranian drones and has already used them in its war against Ukraine.
What we know
War correspondent Elijah J. Magnier wrote about it. Iran and Russia have expanded their strategic cooperation, he said, and Tehran will make the drone deal look like a victory amid tough U.S. sanctions.
Iran sent not only combat drones to Russia, but also a simulator that allowed the Russian military to train in the use of foreign UAVs. The correspondent stressed that the first drones had already been used in the war against Ukraine, but he gave no further information about this.
Drones developed in Iran were also used in Syria. In addition, the correspondent notes that Tehran has sent its drones to Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon, and the Gaza Strip.
Which UAVs were purchased by Russia is not specified. But the piece mentions the unmanned aerial vehicle Shahed 129, developed thanks to the captured American drone MQ-1 Predator. It can carry high-precision missiles and is capable of remaining in the air for 24 hours.
